As part of its staff fundraiser program, Kempsey Shire Council has donated $1,000 to the Macleay Vocational College to support its flexible learning environment for teenage youth.
The College is the second local recipient to benefit from Council's Casual for a Cause program where staff wear casual clothes to work every Friday for a gold coin donation.
Council's General Manager, Craig Milburn, praised staff for rallying together to make a positive difference for the Kempsey Shire.
"We really appreciate what the Vocational College does for the community," he said. "It's amazing in terms of education for young people and also gives back to the local community."
College principal, Mark Morrison, who accepted the $1,000 donation in Council's courtyard yesterday, said the money from Council will be used to purchase second-hand music equipment.
"We can fund staff for the programs but rely on generous people to fund resources and the Kempsey community is fantastic in that way," he said.
"A lot of local people make donations and offer their time for the College and we really appreciate the Council family's generosity to help our students."
College SRC Leader, Terry Button, thanked Council for the donation for equipment for the music room where he and fellow student College Captain, Mason Bannon, spend a lot of their time.
"Music works as an escape for a lot of the students at the College," he said. "It helps clear their head, it helps them get over their issues outside of school and anyone can go down there and play music because it's always open.
"We really appreciate this donation; it's going to give back a lot."
