Our number one priority throughout the COVID-19 pandemic has been the health and safety of Tasmanians, and our public health authorities are continuing to closely monitor the unfolding situation in Victoria.
There are now 23 active cases of COVID-19 in Victoria, with 15 linked to the current outbreak, with Victorian authorities continuing to assess the situation throughout the afternoon.
This outbreak is another important reminder of the need to get vaccinated if you are eligible, and we continue to urge all Tasmanians to not hesitate or wait, and instead make a booking for a vaccination.
There are bookings available and information about who is eligible to receive a vaccination is available at coronavirus.tas.gov.au
Pleasingly, our vaccination rollout continues to progress well, with more than 101,000 people - over 23 per cent of Tasmanians 16 years and over – having now received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
While it will not be a silver bullet, it remains our strongest safeguard to help protect ourselves, our loved ones and the community.
A number of premises in Victoria and the Local Government Area of Whittlesea are now classified as high-risk, meaning anyone intending to travel to Tasmania who has been in those areas at the specified dates and times, will not be permitted to enter unless approved as an Essential Traveller.
Travellers currently in Tasmania who were in Victoria on or since Thursday 6 May are asked to check the list of high-risk premises and anyone who has spent time at any of the sites at the specified dates and times listed should self-isolate immediately and call the Public Health Hotline for further advice.
Public Health has also issued specific advice for those people who attended an AFL game at the MCG on Sunday.
Demand on the public health hotline has increased in recent days as the situation has developed, so please be patient – staff are working hard and your call will be answered as soon it can be.
We will continue to take public health advice as the situation in Victoria develops, and if stronger measures are needed, we will not hesitate to implement them to ensure the health and safety of Tasmanians.
