Work on the Doonella Bridge upgrade has reached another significant milestone, with all retaining walls now completed.
The completion of these works allows backfilling of the excavated road to start.
Acting Major Projects and Transport Manager Kyrone Dodd said the project remains on schedule.
"Additional nightwork over the past six weeks has helped progress the project as it moves into the complex stage of relocating the sewer rising main and reconstructing the Telstra pit," he said.
"This next phase presents some challenges, but we're hopeful it will progress smoothly," he said.
"The contractor and our project team have been very productive and it's pleasing to see the project continue to move forward," Mr Dodd said.
Another key component of the bridge upgrade has started.
The electrochemical chloride extraction process will be commissioned later this week to remove chloride ions (rust-causing salt) from the contaminated reinforced concrete.
The rehabilitation technique uses a temporary electrical current to draw out the rust-causing salt from the concrete, helping to extend the lifespan of the bridge structure by returning the steel reinforcement to a non-corroding condition.
All 20 pile encasements beneath the bridge have been installed.
