Draft budget 2020/21 submissions heard

Ballarat City Council has tonight resolved to:

  • Note the development of the Council Budget 2020/21 has complied with the Local Government Act 1989's section 223 in hearing verbal presentations in support of written submissions
  • Note the submissions presented to Council.

Council also resolved to extend the time to fully consider the submissions heard at the meeting and will hold a meeting on 8 July 2020 to adopt the budget.

Thirteen submissions were received during the Draft Budget 2020/21 consultation process, with two of those submitters speaking at tonight's Ballarat City Council meeting.

The 13 submissions related to:

  • A need for further consultation and an extension of the time period required to complete the budget due to COVID-19 and the appointment of a new CEO
  • Financial details needing further explanation
  • Footpath upgrades
  • Road upgrades
  • Trees budget
  • Rate revenue increases
  • Rate burdens on farmers
  • Loans and borrowings
  • Art gallery funding
  • Library upgrade
  • Social housing
  • Electric vehicles
  • Bicycle paths
  • Recycling
  • Waste
  • Home Support Program
  • Meals on Wheels
  • Youth Services
  • Positive Ageing
  • Customer Service
  • Sports funding

The 2020/21 Budget has been prepared in accordance with the appropriate regulations, legislation and Australian Accounting Standards.

Councillors will vote on the 2020/21 Budget at the 8 July 2020 Ballarat City Council meeting.
