Draft economic development and tourism documents open for public comment

A focus on promoting nature-based adventure travel and sustainable agribusiness in the Macleay are some of the items outlined in two key economic and tourism documents currently on public exhibition.

Kempsey Shire Council is encouraging the community to provide feedback on the draft Horizon 2030 - Macleay Valley Economic Development and Tourism Strategy and the draft Macleay Valley Coast Destination Management Plan 2019-2029

Council's Coordinator Economic Development and Tourism, Marilyn Breen, said the strategy and plan are ten-year frameworks designed to guide Council's direction, decision making and service delivery in economic growth and tourism into the future.

"The documents were developed following extensive research and analysis, community engagement in the form of face-to-face consultation with local businesses and residents, online surveys and input from Council's Economic Development and Tourism Committee," she said.

Ms Breen said to ensure the strategy and plan are in line with the needs of the community, Council is encouraging residents to have their say.

"Initial consultation was crucial in helping us develop the documents. Now we are interested to know what the community thinks of the direction outlined in the two draft documents and if there are any additional aspects that should be considered," she said.

"Once community feedback is received and reviewed, the strategies will be presented to Council in October before being adopted."

The strategies are available to view at Council's West Kempsey office or online by going to Your Say Macleay - https://yoursay.macleay.nsw.gov.au
