Drift fail in Eltham

Greensborough Highway Patrol are investigating after a car crashed into a pole in Eltham last night.

Police were called to Brisbane Street where a red 2003 Ford Falcon XR6 sedan had crashed into a pole about 9.20pm.

It is alleged the P-plate driver was attempting to drift his vehicle when he lost control and crashed.

The driver, a 21-year-old Eltham man was taken to a police station where he returned a breath test of .077.

He is expected to be charged on summons with drink driving, failing to have proper control of vehicle and other traffic related offences.

Police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with dash cam footage in the area at the time of the crash.

This crash forms part of Operation Roadwise, a statewide road policing operation during the high-risk Christmas period.

Police are targeting impaired driving, speed, distraction and fatigue in high-risk areas throughout metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria.

Operation Roadwise runs until 11:59pm Sunday 26 December 2021.
