A driver has been charged after allegedly hitting a teenage rider on Sydney's northern beaches yesterday.
About 4.30pm (Monday 27 April 2026), emergency services were called to the intersection of Abbott Road and Pitt Road, North Curl Curl, following reports of a crash.
Officers attached to Northern Beaches Police Area Command arrived and were told the driver of Volkswagen SUV had allegedly made an offensive hand gesture towards of a group of teens before driving away.
The group of teenagers – all riding e-bikes – followed the car before one of the teens – a 15-year-old boy – engaged in a verbal argument with the driver.
During the argument, the alleged driver – a 38-year-old man – threw a water bottle at the teen before driving away. The 15-year-old then threw the same water bottle back at the car; however, it did not make impact.
The 15-year-old continued to follow the car before blocking it at the intersection, before the driver allegedly hit the teen causing the boy to be thrown from the e-bike.
Two nearby off-duty police officers directed the driver to stop; however, he allegedly failed to do so and drove from the scene.
NSW Ambulance paramedics attended and treated the 15-year-old for serious leg injuries before taking him to Randwick Children's Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
Police established a crime scene, and detectives commenced an investigation into the incident.
Following investigations, the alleged driver was arrested at Dee Why Police Station, about 5.30pm, before being transferred to Manly Police Station.
He was charged with drive furiously in motor vehicle do/cause bodily harm, negligent driving (no death or grievous bodily harm), and drive while licence application refused.
The man was granted strict conditional bail to appear before Manly Local Court on Wednesday 20 May 2026.
