Drivers be patient, roadworks rage not on

Eurobodalla Council is calling on drivers to be patient and take extra care around roadworks at this busy time of year.

It follows an incident last week where council workers were threatened by a driver who refused to stop at a roadworks site.

Infrastructure services director Graham Attenborough said his staff were shaken but okay after the incident, which saw a driver use their vehicle to nudge two workers trying to stop the car driving into oncoming traffic at the worksite.

"The matter has been reported to NSW Police but most importantly our staff are fine. It could have been different though, and I urge everyone on our roads to be extra patient at this busy time of year.

"You might be in a rush, but we want our staff to get home safely every day."

It is an offence to disregard traffic signals at worksites, and Mr Attenborough said Council will not hesitate to report breaches to police.

"Council staff are doing their best to repair local roads after years of flood damage, and Transport for NSW are doing a lot of work on the highway. Yes, hold-ups can be frustrating but disrespecting – let alone threatening - people doing their job is absolutely not on.

"Our priority is the safety and wellbeing of our staff, who are also members of this community. Like you, they deserve to be safe going about their work."
