Drivers fined during Operation Return to School, South Australia

Police have issued numerous fines and defect notices during a state-wide traffic operation around school zones.

Operation Return to School was conducted on Monday 17 October and Tuesday 18 October, during peak drop-off times of 8am to 9am, and peak pick-up times of 2.45pm to 3.45pm with a high visibility police presence to ensure the safety of children and pedestrians around schools.

Police visited 246 schools across South Australia, with 35 expiation notices issued for various offences including speeding, using a hand-held mobile phone while driving and licence or registration offences.

Eight cars were also defected during the operation.

Superintendent Bob Gray, officer in charge of Traffic Services Branch says, "Every student deserves to be able to travel to school safely, whether by car, as a pedestrian or riding a bike. Police are concerned that drivers still continue to ignore the road rules and speed or use their phone while driving, particularly near schools.

Anyone who sees dangerous driving near a school, or at any time is urged to contact police immediately."
