Driving road safety with North Queensland Toyota Cowboys

Minister for Transport and Main Roads and Minister for Digital Services The Honourable Mark Bailey
    • StreetSmarts has entered a new two-year sponsorship agreement with the North Queensland Toyota Cowboys.
    • StreetSmarts will be recognised as a Major Partner and the Official Membership Partner.
    • The sponsorship will increase and promote road safety awareness via Cowboys channels, networks, and community programs.

StreetSmarts is teaming up with the North Queensland Toyota Cowboys to promote the importance of road safety.

The two-year agreement will see TMR's StreetSmarts road safety public education program recognised as a Major Partner and the Official Membership Partner, providing an opportunity to reach Cowboys members with key road safety messaging. Members often travel long distances to home games in Townsville, with 28 per cent travelling 400-500 kilometres.

The partnership will also include promotion of road safety at Cowboys home games at Queensland Country Bank Stadium, and the production of road safety content for digital campaigns. There will also be opportunities to reach younger audiences and indigenous communities via the established Try Time! in-school program and remote community engagement.

The partnership provides a unique opportunity to leverage the popularity and profile of the Cowboys in the North Queensland market and throughout Queensland more broadly to encourage the community to lead the way with road safety.

Quotes attributable to the Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey:

"I'm delighted this partnership with the North Queensland Toyota Cowboys will provide another opportunity to promote road safety.

"With 297 lives lost on Queensland roads last year – the highest number in over a decade – it is important to support initiatives promoting road safety.

"The Cowboys' geographical footprint means we will reach a large market, spanning Far North Queensland to Central Queensland.

"With Cowboys members and fans often travelling long distances to games, road safety messaging is highly relevant.

"We will also reach the community outside Cowboys home games through in-school programs and remote community visits.

"I congratulate the Cowboys for their commitment to working with StreetSmarts on road safety and look forward to seeing fantastic results from this partnership."

"We need to do everything we can to reduce the number of deaths and serious injury on Queensland roads.

"When you are travelling to a game, whether from close by or further away, play it safe on the roads."

Quotes attributable to Aaron Harper, Member for Thuringowa

"The Palaszczuk Government's vision of zero serious road trauma by 2050 is ambitious but achievable if we all do the right thing.

"This partnership with the great NQ Cowboys will only help to reinforce that message and make sure we all get home safely to our friends and families."

Quotes attributable to Member for Mundingburra Les Walker

"North Queenslanders love the Cowboys so there is no better way to get out these important road safety messages.

"The Palaszczuk Government has a vision of zero serious road trauma by 2050 and we all have a role to play in keeping our community safe.

"This is great partnership and one we are proud to be part of."

Quotes attributable to the North Queensland Toyota Cowboys Chief Executive Officer, Jeff Reibel:

"The Cowboys' expansive footprint across regional Queensland means our members aren't a short commute away, instead travelling thousands of kilometres from their respective communities to support us at our home and away games.

"As one example, we have full season members who make the long drive from Mount Isa for 12 games per year to support their team from the grandstand, which demonstrates why road safety is top of mind for our members.

"StreetSmarts and the Cowboys have tackled the issue of road safety through initiatives such as our 'Road Safety' game day promotions and fan engagement initiatives in recent years, so the inking of this Major Partnership is a meaningful and important extension of that work for the next two seasons to come."
