Drug Offences – Groote Eylandt

Groote Eylandt Police have issued notices to appear to two women for drug offences.

Officers from the Dog Operations Unit attended Groote Eylandt Airport to conduct searches on the morning of 2 February.

Drug Detector Dog (DDD) Bear responded to the clothing of a 42-year-old woman. As a result police located and seized two packages of cannabis weighing 40 grams.

She was issued with a notice to appear for:

• Supply Schedule 2 Drug Indigenous Community

• Possess Cannabis in a Public Place

DDD Bear also provided a response to a bag belonging to a 20-year-old woman. Within the bag police found a shampoo bottle which held six taped packages containing 80 deal bags of cannabis. A one litre bottle of rum was also located and seized.

She was issued with a notice to appear for:

• Supply Schedule 2 Drug Indigenous Community

• Possess Cannabis in a Public Place

• Bring Liquor into Alcohol Protected Area

Both woman are due to appear at Alyangula Court on 18 February 2019.
