Drug seizure - Tiwi Islands

Northern Territory Police have seized a traffickable amount of cannabis in a remote community.

Yesterday, while conducting screening at a community air strip, police located multiple shopping bags containing items that appeared to have been tampered with.

Police seized 207 grams of cannabis and some synthetic cannabis that had been hidden inside the items.

Despite having spoken to a number of people, the intended recipient of the bags is yet to be established. Investigations are continuing.

Senior Constable Benjamin Higgins said, "We will continue to target those who attempt to transport illicit substances into remote communities and those who intend to profit from vulnerable persons."
