DTU Climbs Ranks Among Worlds Best Universities

Technical University of Denmark

DTU has moved up the international Academic Ranking of World Universities 2026 , also known as the Shanghai Ranking. This year, DTU is ranked 101–150 in the world, up from its previous ranking of 151–200 in both 2024 and 2025.

"It is gratifying to see DTU moving up among the world's leading universities. This ranking reflects the high quality and impact of our research and, not least, the tremendous effort our researchers and staff put in every day to create new knowledge and technology for the benefit of society," says Anders Bjarklev, President of DTU.

This improvement is evident, for example, in the "Highly cited researchers" indicator, which accounts for 20 per cent of the overall assessment. With this year's result, DTU also ranks among the 6th to 9th best-ranked universities in the Nordic region and among the 31st to 46th in Europe.

The Academic Ranking of World Universities assesses the world's universities based on six indicators, including highly cited researchers, publications in Nature and Science, scientific publications, and Nobel and Fields Medals among alumni and staff. The Fields Medal is awarded to young mathematicians.

Over 2,500 universities are ranked, but only the top 1,000 are published.
