Dubbo Man Charged for Prohibited Weapon Possession

A man will appear in court today charged with firearm and weapon offences in the state's west yesterday.

About 9.10pm (Tuesday 12 September 2023), police were called to a licenced premises on Whylandra Street, Dubbo, following reports of a man, allegedly armed with a firearm.

On arrival, officers attached to Orana Mid-Western Police District spoke to a man in possession of a bag.

The 37-year-old man was arrested and during a search of his bag, police located a .22 calibre rifle along with a magazine and ammunition.

Police also seized an electronic stun device and a set of tools in his possession.

He was taken to Dubbo Police Station where he was charged with following offences:

  • possess unauthorised prohibited firearm,
  • possess shortened firearm (not pistol) without authority,
  • possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority,
  • possess firearm not stamped/engraved with allotted number,
  • possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit, and
  • possess housebreaking implements.

He was refused bail to appear at Dubbo Local Court today (Wednesday 13 September 2023).
