Duo Busted Stealing Cable At Munno Para

A man and woman have been arrested after allegedly stealing copper cabling from a telecommunications pit at Munno Para.

Police were called to Coventry Road just before 11pm on Thursday 27 August following reports of two people interfering with a telecommunications pit.

On arrival, patrols located a Mazda sedan parked beside the pit and a woman seated inside. She was arrested after a search of the car allegedly uncovered tools and copper cabling.

Additional patrols, assisted by Police Dog Webster and his handler, searched the area for the second suspect who was found hiding in a nearby field and arrested.

A 40-year-old Munno Para woman and a 38-year-old Craigmore man were charged with theft and going equipped to commit an offence. The man was also charged with driving while disqualified.

Both were refused police bail and are expected to appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court on Friday 28 August.

The Mazda sedan was impounded for 28 days.
