In an April 1 speech at Rice University that promises to be both enlightening and thought-provoking, Michael Eric Dyson is set to deliver an address titled "BHM, BLM, DEI, CRT, AI, AP and MLK: Alphabets Against American Amnesia." A Distinguished Professor of African American and Diaspora Studies, Distinguished Professor of Ethics and Society and the Centennial Chair in African American and Diaspora Studies at Vanderbilt University, Dyson will challenge and inspire audiences to confront uncomfortable truths, while working toward a more just and equitable society.
Dyson's multifaceted career as an author, ordained minister and radio host adds depth to his perspectives on race, history and contemporary issues. With a bibliography boasting more than 25 books covering a diverse range of subjects, including influential figures such as Malcolm X, Martin Luther King Jr., Marvin Gaye, Barack Obama and Tupac Shakur, Dyson's scholarship underscores his commitment to exploring the complexities of African American culture and identity.
The event hosted by Rice's Center for African and African American Studies is co-sponsored by the Center for Engaged Research and Collaborative Learning and the School of Humanities.
