East Gippsland Grants Spark Strong Community Response

East Gippsland Shire Council has received a strong response to last year's Community Impact Grants program, with local groups submitting a wide range of projects focused on strengthening communities and supporting environmental sustainability.

Applications for the 2025 Community Impact Grants were open from 1 October to 31 October, with thirty-six (36) applications received, seeking a total Council contribution of $461,595.55 toward projects with a combined delivery value of $811,594.55.

The Community Impact Grants program offers funding between $3,001 and $20,000 for projects that deliver meaningful outcomes for local communities or the environment.

Mayor Jodie Ashworth said the strong level of interest reflected the passion and commitment of community groups across East Gippsland.

"Community groups are at the heart of what makes East Gippsland such a strong and connected region," Cr Ashworth said.

"These grants help turn great local ideas into reality - whether that's improving facilities, protecting the environment, or creating new opportunities for people to get involved, while also addressing immediate community needs and supporting long-term growth and social inclusion."

Cr Ashworth said each funding round continued to showcase the diversity and creativity within local communities.

The recipients were divided into two streams: Stream A - Environmental Sustainability and Stream B - Facilities and Open Space.

"Every round we see something different - fresh ideas that demonstrate the initiative, care and pride our communities have in improving outcomes not only for people, but also for local assets and the environment," she said.

Arts-focused projects have been supported through a separate grant stream.

Although only 15 applicants were successful in this round, Council is committed to supporting those who missed out. Guidance and feedback will be offered to help groups refine their proposals and prepare for future funding rounds.
