The Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) is managing the impacts of heavy rain and flooding as a tropical low moves across the network in South Australia, western Victoria and southern New South Wales.
The Broken Hill and Whyalla lines and sections of the East West corridor are currently closed while detailed assessments are undertaken, including aerial inspection to verify damage.
The Melbourne to Perth corridor is expected to reopen within the next 24-36 hours, with restoration works to repair washaways nearing completion.
The Sydney to Perth corridor is expected to remain closed until at least Sunday, with reopening timeframes dependent on the outcomes of track inspections.
Crews and equipment are positioned to support recovery works as soon as it is safe and conditions allow.
ARTC continues to monitor on-ground conditions in real-time in consultation with specialist weather providers.
Closures are implemented in accordance with our extreme weather policy, prioritising the safety of our people, customers and the integrity of the network.
ARTC remains in direct communication with customers and will provide further updates as conditions develop.
