Campaspe Shire Council is inviting residents and stakeholders to review and provide feedback on the final draft functional design for the levee to protect Echuca East from future flooding. This final draft incorporates revisions following earlier community consultation.

Following the devastating impact of the 2022 flood event, which severely affected Echuca East, the area was identified as a high priority in the Echuca Flood Risk Management Plan. The proposed levee aims to provide reliable flood protection for residential properties currently unprotected by a continuous levee system.

This final draft outlines a levee stretching from the old Echuca Moama bridge surrounding Echuca East as far as Snowden Street. The alignment has been adjusted from the earlier version to provide additional shared path access points to the forest and a revised drainage basin to service an upgraded Mitchell Street drainage pump station. This basin is to be created by moving the new levee north of the existing levee between Hovell Street and Pakenham Street providing improved drainage and buffering to the nearby houses.

The design also includes a concrete wall to strengthen the water treatment plant levee with demountable sections across Goulburn Road and Middle Track access to the forest.

Campaspe Shire Mayor, Cr Daniel Mackrell is encouraging community members to review the plans either in person or online via Council's website.

"A great deal of consultation has already taken place to reach this stage. We've established a community reference group to guide the preliminary design and ensured strong community involvement in developing the Echuca Flood Risk Management Plan.

"We remain committed to working closely with residents so the final design truly reflects local needs and priorities," said the mayor.
