Echuca Racing Towards Good Friday With Funding Boost

The Allan Labor Government is supporting Echuca's racing community by getting behind the Good Friday Country Discovery Raceday, as well as upgrading the racetrack's mobile reception and get new shade sails.

Minister for Racing Anthony Carbines today announced an investment of $20,000 through the Government's Victorian Racing Industry Fund's Regional Racing Events Program to support this year's event - helping attract thousands of visitors to one of Victoria's most scenic racecourses.

Entertainment tomorrow will include music, performers, a petting zoo, stilt walkers, children's games, new marquees and a central big screen bringing all the action to life.

To further support the future of Echuca racing, the Labor Government is investing more than $61,000 to install a permanent Telstra Fourth Generation (4G) mobile coverage system, with Echuca Racing Club matching the funding amount.

The infrastructure will improve mobile service on race days, supporting EFTPOS facilities and emergency communications.

The Labor Government has also awarded almost $40,000 for the installation of new shade sails in front of The Pavilion and the Winning Post Bar, with Echuca Racing Club matching the contribution.

These upgrades will attract more patrons at racing events no matter the weather and provide more chances for the community to use club facilities year-round.

Construction on both the Telstra system and the shade sails will begin in June following the Easter races, with completion expected by early 2026.

Since December 2014, the Labor Government has invested almost $2 million to support 27 thoroughbred events and 17 infrastructure projects at the Echuca Racing Club.

The regional racing industry plays a vital role in Victoria's economy - generating $1.17 billion and helping sustain more than 9,000 jobs.

As stated by Minister for Racing Anthony Carbines

"Our continued investment in regional racing helps create jobs, strengthen local economies and ensures these much-loved events remain a highlight on the racing calendar."

As stated by President Echuca Racing Club Craig Sutton

"The Country Discovery Raceday will bring people to Echuca from all over the state, boosting local tourism and showcasing everything country Victoria has to offer - from thrilling racing to live entertainment and warm community spirit."
