The Tasmanian Government's $35.5 million upgrade to Edgar Dam has been delivered four months ahead of schedule.
Minister for Energy and Renewables, Nick Duigan, said Edgar Dam is a critical part of Hydro Tasmania's Gordon power scheme, which produces 13 per cent of our energy needs.
"Tasmanians are rightly proud of our renewable energy generation," Minister Duigan said.
"The $35.5 million upgrade is about further strengthening Edgar Dam, making sure our critical electricity infrastructure remains safe and reliable for decades to come."
The works included the construction of a filter buttress along the downstream face of the dam, which is a reinforcing structure to prevent erosion and to add stability to the dam wall.
A new crest wall was also constructed, which is the very top edge of the dam wall.
The works included 2000 truck deliveries bringing 60,000 tonnes of material to the site from commercial quarries.
"A key part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future is about delivering the energy Tasmanians rely on," Minister Duigan said.
"The Edgar Dam upgrade delivers long-term reliability and security for Tasmania's renewable energy infrastructure.
"More than 95 per cent of project spending stayed in Tasmania, supporting local businesses and contractors."
"I want to acknowledge the work of Hydro Tasmania and Hall Earthmoving to deliver this major project in a remote location," Minister Duigan said.
"Our Government is delivering the energy infrastructure we committed to, securing Tasmania's renewable energy future."
