Eight people have been charged with alleged drug offences following a police operation in Port Macquarie last week.
On Friday 24 April 2026 and Saturday 25 April 2026, officers attached to Mid North Coast Police District – assisted by the Dog Unit – conducted Operation Safeguard across licensed premises in the Port Macquarie and Hastings areas.
As a result of the operation, eight people were charged with alleged drug possession offences, and two cannabis cautions were issued.
A 17-year-old boy was also charged with an alleged breach ADVO offence.
Incidents of note include:
- About 2.45pm on Friday 24 January 2026, police stopped a man at Kooloonbung Reserve in Port Macquarie. During a search of the man, police allegedly located and seized 17g cocaine, 71g cannabis, digital scales, clear resealable bags, and $1,220 cash. A 49-year-old man was arrested and taken to Port Macquarie Police Station where he was charged with two counts of supply prohibited drug, possess prohibited drug, and deal with proceed of indictable crime-money etc of any value. He was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court 1 on Saturday 25 April 2026, where he was formally refused bail to appear before Port Macquarie Local Court tomorrow (Wednesday 29 April 2026).
- About 7pm on Friday 25 April 2026, police were conducting a licensed premises inspection at a venue on Ocean Drive, Port Macquarie. During the inspection, police approached a man who allegedly refused to stop for the officers and ran from the venue. Police pursued the man on foot for several hundred metres before he was arrested behind a home on Ocean Drive. An 18-year-old man was taken to Port Macquarie Police Station where he was charged with hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty. He was granted conditional bail to appear before Port Macquarie Local Court tomorrow (Wednesday 29 April 2026). During the foot pursuit, a police dog was struck by a vehicle on Ocean Drive. The dog was taken to a veterinarian for the treatment of minor injuries and has since been released.
