Elderly man assaulted in CBD

Police are seeking public assistance after an elderly man was assaulted in Melbourne’s CBD in February, Victoria Police say.

Investigators have been told the 84-year-old was walking south on Centre Place on Friday 3 February about 1pm.

The Brighton man commenced walking down a small flight of stairs when a man accused him of hitting him with his walking stick.

The unknown man then pushed the elderly man, causing him to fall on his side.

A female passer-by has taken a photo of the offender before helping the victim walk from the scene.

The man has sustained minor cuts and bruising on his elbow and forearm.

Melbourne East police are appealing for the female witness to come forward and assist with their enquiries.

The woman and anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
