Electric Motorbike Hits Officer in Melbourne CBD, Arrest Made

Police arrested a teenager after an officer was struck by an electric powered motorbike in Melbourne's CBD this afternoon.

The male sergeant was patrolling the Flinders Street area when he spotted a group of males riding erratically on electric motorbikes about 4.10pm.

The police member gave one of the riders a direction to pull over between Swanston and Elizabeth streets before he was struck by the rider.

It is believed the rider sped up and struck the sergeant as he attempted to drive off.

The police officer managed to restrain the rider, before he was taken to hospital with a serious leg injury.

The rider, a 15-year-old boy from the Port Phillip area, was arrested at the scene and will be interviewed in relation to the incident.

The other riders in the group left the area on their motorbikes.

Anyone who witnessed the incident, with footage or information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or anonymously at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
