The newly constructed Acton Emergency Services Station has been handed over to the Emergency Services Agency, with the fully electric-powered station set to become operational in the coming months.
The eco-friendly $40 million facility will house both ACT Fire & Rescue and ACT Ambulance Service, providing modern infrastructure to support our first responders and maintain emergency services access for the central Canberra community.
Situated on the corner of Parkes Way and Clunies Ross Street, the new station represents a major investment in the safety and wellbeing of Canberrans.
"Today marks another milestone in equipping our first responders with the infrastructure needed to serve our growing community reliably and efficiently," said Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Services, Dr Marisa Paterson.
"The Acton Emergency Services Station will allow us to maintain our nation-leading response times to emergencies while servicing one of Canberra's fastest-growing communities."
The station will provide emergency responders with a modern, well-equipped base for operations. Key features include:
- Accommodation for 2 fire and rescue crews per shift
- Capacity for up to 6 ambulance vehicles
- Charging infrastructure for electric emergency vehicles
- An array of solar panels expected to generate 142MWh of energy each year.
"The station's design, incorporating sustainability features and future-focused infrastructure, ensures we are well-prepared to meet the evolving needs of our growing city," Dr Paterson said.
