Electric Trucks to Deliver Cleaner, Cheaper Freight

Dept of Climate Change, Energy, Environment & Water

A new fleet of 30 electric trucks is set to start delivering appliances across Sydney and Melbourne, cutting pollution, noise and fuel costs on some of Australia's busiest roads.

With $3.65 million in support from ARENA through the Australian Government's Driving the Nation Fund, Zenobe will provide battery-electric vehicles and charging infrastructure to Winnings as a service, helping the white goods retailer cut fuel costs, emissions, noise and air pollution.

The service-based model means businesses can get electric trucks on the road without having to carry the full upfront cost of buying vehicles and charging infrastructure.

Minister for Climate Change and Energy Chris Bowen said electric trucks were proving their worth for businesses across Australia by cutting costs, cutting pollution and doing the job.

"Whether they're delivering groceries, appliances or packages, electric trucks are showing they can work for business and for households." Minister Bowen said.

"Across the country and the world, battery-electric trucks have proven they're up to the task, while cutting fuel bills, pollution and emissions.

"But we know that switching to electric vehicles can be a significant investment so we're backing practical, common-sense ways to make the switch easier for businesses, including EV-as-a-service models."

Zenobe is one of a growing number of companies accelerating electric vehicle uptake, with insights from its project helping prove how electric trucks can handle heavier payloads and real-world freight routes.

ARENA is funding innovative infrastructure and charging solutions that help prove what works in Australian conditions. This will accelerate private investment and help bring costs down faster for Australian families and businesses.

The Albanese Government's Driving the Nation Fund is making electric vehicles easier to own and run by backing EV innovation and charging infrastructure across Australia because cleaner, cheaper transport should be within reach for more Australians.
