Council is inviting the community to celebrate the completion of the Elliminyt Wetlands project at a FREE community event from 8am to 10am, Friday 10 July.
The family-friendly celebration will include Mixx FM broadcasting onsite, free sausage sizzle cooked by Rotary of Colac Otway, Get Buzzed coffee van selling hot drinks and the Bulla Ice-Cream van.
Kids' activities will be a part of the fun with a performance and interactive circus play from Nicholas Ridiculous and colouring-in and bird spotting.
Mayor Jason Schram said the Elliminyt Wetlands will open up approximately 70 hectares of land supporting future housing growth in one of the region's expanding residential areas.
"Council advocated and worked to bring this project together over many years. With stakeholders, partners, Council and community we've delivered an important asset that will benefit Colac Otway residents now and into the future," Cr Schram said.
"This celebration is an opportunity for us to come together, have fun and learn about the newly completed project.
"What was once inaccessible land has been transformed into key infrastructure that is a step toward addressing housing supply, creating long-term environmental benefits.
"It's also a fantastic open space where residents can walk, cycle and enjoy the outdoors close to home.
"We look forward to celebrating this important project and milestone with the community," Cr Schram said.
Regional Development Victoria invested $3 million toward the Elliminyt Wetlands project. Council also invested $1.45 million to bring the project to life.
