Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding a house fire which occurred in Footscray West this morning.
Emergency services were called to a property on Essex St about 2.20am.
The blaze was quickly extinguished by fire crews and a preliminary examination of the site made.
At this stage the cause of the fire is yet to be determined but it is being treated as suspicious.
A crime scene has been established and an arson chemist is expected to examine the site in the morning,
