Emergency crews responding to truck fire at Andrews Farm, South Australia

Emergency services are working to clear the road after a truck fire at Andrews Farm this morning.

A B-Double carrying a load of chickens was heading south on the Northern Expressway about 4am on Wednesday 16 October when the driver was alerted by another motorist of smoke coming from the rear trailer.

The truck driver managed to pull over and disconnect the prime mover but the rear trailer caught alight.

The fire was extinguished by MFS crews.

The truck driver was not injured. Sadly, a number of chickens were killed in the fire and the rest will be euthanised.

The Northern Expressway is currently closed for southbound traffic, with traffic being diverted at the Angle Vale exit, while emergency crews clear the scene.

The road is expected to be reopened about 7.30am today.
