Energy ministers from the 21 APEC member economies issued a joint statement at the conclusion of the 15th APEC Energy Ministerial Meeting in Busan, Republic of Korea, on 27-28 August 2025.
Ministers recognized that addressing the region's energy challenges will require the use of available energy sources and technologies, together with advanced energy storage, power grid and efficiency solutions, in line with domestic circumstances and priorities.
The statement noted rising demand for electricity across the region, particularly from transport, industry and the expansion of AI-driven data centers. Ministers stressed the importance of diversifying power sources, supporting investment, fostering technological innovation and enabling efficient market operations to strengthen flexibility, resilience and stability of power systems.
Ministers also emphasized the need to modernize and expand grid infrastructure, including storage systems, microgrids, smart distribution networks and subsea cables. They highlighted the innovative potential of AI in energy systems, from predictive analytics to demand management, while also underlining the importance of managing energy demand from digital transformation.
