Energy Relief For Concession Customers In SA

SA Gov

South Australians eligible for the State Government's energy concession will be able to save even more on their electricity and gas bills under a new deal with Origin, which could save households up to $653 per year* in electricity and gas costs.

The South Australian Concessions Energy Discount Offer (SACEDO) scheme significantly slashes costs for eligible energy concession customers by partnering with a retailer to promote the offer to about 200,000 people.

Under the new SACEDO agreement, concession customers who choose to sign up with Origin will be able to access:

  • 20 per cent off the Default Market Offer (DMO) - Origin's standard electricity usage and supply charges (up from 17 per cent)
  • 15 per cent off Origin's standard gas usage and supply charges (up from 11 per cent)
  • Flexible payment options
  • No late payment, paper bill, credit card or exit fees.

This would result in annual savings of $653 - up to $460 in electricity for a household using 4000 kWh / yearly on a peak anytime tariff and $193 for a household using 14000 MJ/ yearly in the Aust Gas Networks network - when compared to Origin's standard electricity and gas rates.

Additionally, eligible LPG users will also receive a 40 per cent discount on the local price of a 45kg cylinder for a period of 12 months from when they accept the offer.

Origin is currently helping more than 70,000 South Australian customers to cut down on their electricity and gas costs under the SACEDO scheme. The company has been involved in the program since 2017 and was selected again through an open and independently probity-assured tender process.

The new SACEDO offer will begin now and run until at least 2029. The State Government does not subsidise the discount or provide any financial contribution to a retailer providing the discount to SACEDO customers.

The offer is available to customers receiving the State Government energy concession via a discount on their electricity bill. People already on the SACEDO offer with Origin will transition to the new offer and don't need to take any action.

Customers with a concession and not receiving the offer can visit https://www.originenergy.com.au/originvaluesa (external site) or phone Origin on 1300 791 465 to see if this offer could help them save on their energy bills.

The increased discounts on offer through the SACEDO scheme will make a tangible difference to the lives of South Australians who are feeling the cost-of-living pinch.

Putting money back into their pockets will enable them to spend their hard-earned cash on other essentials like rent, groceries, cooling and medical expenses.

By locking in this deal with Origin, we as a State Government are ensuring vulnerable households can keep the lights on while easing the pressure on family budgets.

We're pleased to extend our partnership with the South Australian Government to deliver value on electricity, natural gas and LPG for concession customers.

The SACEDO program is already helping more than 70,000 South Australian customers reduce their energy costs and this new, increased offer will provide further support to households who need it across the state.

As put by SACEDO recipient Pauline Clark

The concessions help reduce my energy bills, so I don't have to think twice about turning the air conditioner on during the heat.

I hope more pensioners hear about the support available, it could really make things easier for them too.
