More than 500 native trees, plants, shrubs, and grass cover were planted in a local park for National Tree Day on Sunday 27 July.
Bayside Council hosted the tree planting event at Scarborough Park, Monterey. Between 11am to 2pm, more than 30 people including families and Bayside Mayor Councillor Edward McDougall came along to help increase Bayside's tree canopy cover and create more habitat for native animals. An area just larger than a tennis court was planted to support local biodiversity and green spaces.
National Tree Day is Australia's largest community tree planting and nature care event, encouraging people to get involved in environmental activities.
Bayside Council Mayor Edward McDougall said:
"It was great to join the many Bayside residents who attended the tree planting at Scarborough Park. We are very proud to have planted 500 native trees and plants to boost Scarborough Park's native canopy and its attraction to native birds and wildlife."
