Epworth Geelong has welcomed the hospital's 1000th baby into the world.
Lara couple Janelle and Steve Overall's son Archie was delivered on Wednesday, weighing 3.6 kilograms (eight pounds 13-ounces).
Janelle said knowing Archie was the hospital's 1000th baby was exciting.
"When I was in labour, the midwife told us there was a good chance that Archie could be baby 1,000 at the hospital," Janelle said.
"We thought that was exciting and would be something nice to look back on as part of Archie's story."
Janelle said Archie's four-year-old sister is yet to see Archie in person due to visitor restrictions.
"We've been re-assured by the doctors and midwives that the hospital had all of the right protocols in place (during COVID-19) but are disappointed that our daughter Piper hasn't been able to visit due to restrictions. However, she has met him via video chat."
Steve Overall said before the birth, Piper had asked whether the birth might make the news.
"Last week we were watching the news and saw a baby on TV," Mr Overall said.
"Piper asked whether her baby sibling would also be on the news. We laughed and naturally said no. Now we have to take that back."
Acting Director of Clinical Services Lisa Garner was involved in the establishment of Epworth Geelong's maternity unit and has been there ever since.
"This special occasion is wonderful to reflect on our maternity service and it's lovely news for the parents and the community during the challenging times brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic," Ms Garner said.
Ms Garner said they're already seeing familiar faces back at the hospital.
"We really do try to create a personal experience here and that's the feedback we hear from families. We are already seeing some women coming back to have their second babies with us as well."
Epworth Geelong Executive General Manager Luke Edwards is proud of the milestone.
"Delivering our 1000th baby here at Epworth Geelong is testament to the passion and dedication of our midwives, obstetricians and pediatricians; providing first-class care to local families," Mr Edwards said.
"Despite the COVID-19 pandemic women can expect the same level of care that Epworth Maternity is renowned for."
