The proposed Improved Native Forest Management in Multiple-use Public Native Forests (INFM) method and the consultation questions are now ready to view.
From 2 to 30 January 2026, you can have your say on the proposed method.
About the proposal
The method would allow projects to earn Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) by stopping or reducing timber harvesting in state forests.
Background
The NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (NSW DCCEEW) submitted the method proposal to the Emissions Reduction Assurance Committee (ERAC) in July 2024.
The Australian Government agreed to prioritise its development in October 2024.
NSW DCCEEW has now developed the proposed method.
Next steps after consultation
After the consultation closes, we will finalise the method. The ERAC will then make a recommendation to the Australian Government on whether the ACCU Scheme should include the method.
