Erratic driver arrested in St Albans

Police have arrested a woman following an alleged erratic driving incident through multiple north western suburbs last night.

Officers were called to a Cairnlea Drive, Cairnlea address just after 7pm to reports of a woman asleep inside a vehicle.

Registration checks on the black Ford Fiesta confirmed it had been stolen from a Maribyrnong shopping centre car park on Saturday 6 March.

Police attempted to intercept the vehicle however it allegedly drove off at a fast rate of speed.

Police on the ground received support by the Air Wing who assisted in locating the vehicle, which allegedly continued to drive at a fast rate of speed and on occasion travelled onto the footpath to manoeuvre around traffic.

The vehicle was tracked to an address in Marsden Crescent, St Albans where a 51-year-old Moonee Ponds woman was arrested at the scene.

A search of the vehicle allegedly located further stolen property including two sets of stolen number plates.

The Moonee Ponds woman has been charged with 13 charges including theft of motor vehicle, fail to stop upon police direction and reckless conduct endangering life.

She was remanded to appear before Sunshine Magistrates' Court today.
