Escape from lawful custody at Townsville

A 26-year-old woman has been charged after allegedly absconding from a low-security correctional centre at Stuart on December 25.

Police were called to the facility at approximately 4am following reports two women, aged 26 and 44, were unaccounted for.

Following extensive investigations the 26-year-old woman was located at a Deeragun address at approximately 11pm last night (January 7), and was taken into custody without incident.

She has been charged with one count of escape from lawful custody, and has been refused bail to appear before Townsville Magistrates Court tomorrow (January 9).

Investigations are ongoing in relation to the 44-year-old woman, police ask anyone with information to come forward.

Anyone who may see the 44-year-old is urged to not approach, and immediately call Triple Zero (000).
