Escaped prisoner arrested at Townsville

A 19-year-old man who allegedly absconded from a Townsville correctional facility with two other men on Monday night has been arrested.

Around 8.45pm last night officers from Townsville’s Tactical Crime Squad were patrolling in Heatley when they located a stolen Mazda CX 5 parked in Gosper Street.

A man allegedly ran from the vehicle and was arrested a short time later.

A woman was also arrested.

The 19-year-old man has been charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle and escape lawful custody.

He will appear in the Townsville Magistrates Court today.

The woman was also charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle and driving without a licence. She will appear in Townsville Magistrates Court next month.

Two other male prisoners who absconded from the correctional facility remain outstanding.
