Escapee Charged At Cooma

A man who allegedly escaped from a Cooma correctional facility has been charged after a search in the state's south overnight.

About 4.30pm yesterday (Tuesday 15 July 2025), police were called to a correctional facility in Cooma, following reports of an escapee.

Officers attached to Monaro Police District were notified and – with assistance from the Dog Unit – immediately began conducting inquiries to locate a 28-year-old man.

Following extensive investigations, the man was arrested at a service station on Sharp Street, Cooma, about 12.30am today (Wednesday 16 July 2025).

He was taken to Cooma Police Station where he was charged with inmate escape/attempt to escape form lawful custody and goods in personal custody suspected of being stolen not motor vehicle.

The man was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Local Court 3 today.
