ESCWA at 5th UN Conference on Least Developed Countries

On the sidelines of the fifth United Nations Conference on Least Developed Countries held in Doha, ESCWA organized two side events on 5 and 7 March on least developed countries (LDCs) in the Arab region. The events focused on supporting resilient sustainable development and adopting a triple nexus approach in conflict and fragile settings.

ESCWA Executive Secretary Rola Dashti stressed that partnership was essential to support LDCs in the region and called for renewing partnerships to address the root causes of conflicts, to quickly achieve inclusive economic and social development for all, and better rebuild national institutions and capacities.

Participants in both events discussed the compounding challenges of conflict and climate-related risks, and ways to help national actors achieve collective outcomes which reduce risks and vulnerabilities.
