ESCWA Highlights Arab Priorities At HLPF 2026

ESCWA is participating in the 2026 High-level Political Forum (HLPF), taking place at the UN Headquarters in New York from 7 to 15 July, bringing the Arab region's priorities, perspectives, and experiences to the global dialogue on accelerating the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Speaking at an SDG6 special event, ESCWA Executive Secretary Rania Al-Mashat underscored the urgency of addressing water challenges in the Arab region, noting that two-thirds of the region's freshwater resources cross one or more international borders. "Water is not a standalone issue, but a connector across the UN System and across the SDGs," she stressed. (Full intervention)

Similarly, during an SDG7 special event, Al-Mashat highlighted the Arab region's progress while calling for faster action to achieve affordable, reliable, and sustainable energy for all. "The future of energy in the Arab region will not be built country by country. It will be built through connectivity," she said. (Full intervention)
