Get a rare glimpse into Britpop history at Before Oasis: In Conversation with Marcus Russell - a special event offering firsthand insight into the career of one of the UK's most influential artist managers.
Marcus Russell, who managed Oasis from 1993 until their split in 2009, helped steer the band to the forefront of the Britpop movement, making them the definitive act of the era. Since then, his company Ignition has continued to manage Noel Gallagher's solo career under Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds.
In this candid conversation, Martin Russell will reflect on his early days in the music industry - from promoting gigs in his hometown of Ebbw Vale, South Wales, to managing the band Latin Quarter, a pivotal step in what became a 40-year career working with numerous rock bands, singer-songwriters, and musicians.
The event will be hosted by Dr Mike Jones from the Department of Music, a lifelong friend of Russell's. The two first met in the 1980s when Jones's band, Latin Quarter, gave Russell his first opportunity in band management.
Generously supported by Mark Astaire in memory of his brother, Peter Astaire, this evening promises to offer rare insights into the inner workings of the music industry.
Before Oasis: In Conversation with Marcus Russell will take place on Thursday 8th May, 7 -9pm at the Tung Auditorium, Yoko Ono Lennon Centre.
