Ex-Cop Faces Charges for Gun Crimes: Professional Standards Command

A former NSW Police officer has been charged with firearms offences.

Strike Force Vertical was formed by Professional Standards Command to investigate a report that a then-serving officer had, in May 2021, allowed his teenage son to discharge his police-issued firearm on a private property.

Following inquiries, the man, now aged 50, was issued with a Future Court Attendance Notice (FCAN) on Tuesday 13 February 2024 for three counts of give pistol to person not authorised by licence or permit, and one count of possess unauthorised pistol.

The charges were originally scheduled to be heard in Grafton Local Court on 25 March 2024; however, following an application to the court by the defendant, the matter was mentioned in that court yesterday (Monday 11 March 2024).

The matter is next listed for mention at Grafton Local Court on Monday 13 May 2024.

The man was a sergeant attached to a Northern Region command at the time of the alleged offence. He disengaged from the NSW Police Force in 2022.
