Council is continuing its commitment to sustainable practices within its workforce with a trial of a battery electric vehicle.
The Nissan Leaf will be used by Council's assets team to conduct their regular inspections of Council's community facilities, roads, footpaths and other key infrastructure across the city.
Throughout the trial, data on the car's energy use will be collected and compared against Council's existing fleet to determine its impact on emissions reduction and economic feasibility.
"Reducing the carbon emissions of our services is something we are invested in for the benefit of our community now and into the future," Mayor George Brticevic said.
"This trial will enable us to assess the viability of introducing more electric vehicles into our fleet over the coming years and move our organisation towards cleaner energy use," Cr Brticevic said.
"The trial vehicle will be used frequently by our assets team, enabling us to capture accurate data to compare it against the rest of our pool car fleet," he said.
This is one of a number of Council initiatives to improve the sustainability of its operations, such as solar power, purchasing renewable energy from Moree Solar Farm and developing a plan to transition our operations towards cleaner energy use.
