GENEVA - The United Nations' Expert Mechanism on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples is set to discuss wide-ranging themes, including the right of Indigenous Peoples to data, at its 18th session from 14 to 18 July 2025 in Room XIX, Palais des Nations, Geneva, with meetings that will be webcast live.
At this session, the Expert Mechanism will hold an interactive dialogue with other Indigenous human rights mechanisms and the Human Rights Committee. It will also hold a brief coordination meeting with counterpart UN Indigenous mechanisms and discuss two thematic reports: on the rights of Indigenous Peoples including with regard to data collection and disaggregation and on the rights of Indigenous Peoples to their traditional economies.
In addition, the Expert Mechanism will hold four focused dialogues:
- Panel discussion on country engagement missions to Australia and Norway (Monday 14 July from 16:00 to 18:00).
- Panel discussion on the role of national and regional human rights institutions in achieving the ends of the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. (Tuesday 15 July from 10:00 to 13:00).
- Enhancing the participation of Indigenous Peoples in the United Nations (Wednesday 16 July from 11:00 to 13:00).
- International Decade of Indigenous Languages (Thursday 17 July from 12:00 to 16:00).
