Explore Heritage Perth Weekend 2021

In its 11th year, Boorloo Kwedjang Bardip Yanginy | Heritage Perth Weekend, supported by Lotterywest, is back once again from 16 to 18 April.

Featuring more than 130 events and activities, Lord Mayor Basil Zempilas said the Heritage Perth program would inspire people to experience Perth's amazing natural, cultural and built heritage.

"We are certainly spoilt for choice when it comes to places and stories of significance in the city," he said.

"Heritage Perth Weekend gives us a chance to explore more of our heritage with informative walks, talks, storytelling, interactive workshops, exhibitions and immersive experiences to explore."

In 2021, new events will shine a light on our multicultural heritage and Aboriginal history, including truth-telling yarns from Whadjuk Nyoongar Elders and colourful activities from the Chung Wah Association.

"With the guidance of the City of Perth Elders Advisory Group (the Bridyas), we have introduced dual naming for this event to reflect the importance of the cultural heritage of the Whadjuk Nyoongar people," City of Perth Lord Mayor Basil Zempilas said.

"We hope these cultural events help create a better understanding of our shared history and the community in which we live."

Elder Uncle Farley Garlett said it was an opportunity for all to come and engage with the Nyoongar culture in the heart of Boorloo (Perth).

"My culture, Nyoongar Culture, is about stories – stories told to our children who learn our lore and culture. For our youth, it is about guiding them along in life. Our family is an extended family where we all come together, sit down, tell stories and share," Uncle Farley Garlett said.

Adding to the festivities this year, the program has expanded to include Family Friday on 16 April, focussing on activities for children and families to explore, learn and engage with Perth's rich past.
