Genomics Australia was established 1 July 2025 to provide national leadership, coordination and expertise to support the better integration of genomics into the Australian health system in a person and family-centred, culturally safe, efficient, effective, ethical and equitable way.
Genomics Australia will provide capability and capacity to drive the work required to translate health genomics research outcomes into the Australian health system, supporting a transition from a research focus to clinical service delivery.
Genomics Australia is supported by the Australian Health Genomics Commissioner who will guide the work of Genomics Australia and provide advice to Government based on broad engagement with the sector and community.
The Genomics Australia Advisory Council is being established to support the Australian Health Genomics Commissioner through the provision of expert independent advice, grounded in evidence, culturally safe practices, and reflecting community values.
We are seeking individuals with expertise in one or more of the following areas:
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Genomics
- Healthcare Advocacy
- Lived Experience
- Diagnostic and Clinical Practice
- Ethical, Legal and Social Implications of Health Genomics
- Health Policy and Health System
- Industry and Health Technology
- Medical Research
Members will be appointed as individuals based on their expertise. Individuals will not represent the views or positions of any specific organisation or institution.
The Advisory Council is expected to meet up to 4 times per year, for up to 3 hours. Meetings will be held virtually (up to 2 hours) with at least one in-person meeting (up to 3 hours) held annually. Members may also be consulted on specific issues out-of-session.
Members will be renumerated in accordance with the Departmental Remuneration Framework for Non-Statutory External Departmental Committees, which is benchmarked off the Remuneration Tribunal Determination.
