The deadline for entries into the 2023 Lithgow Waste 2 Art competition has been extended until 5.00pm Tuesday 13 June to allow for wider participation across all categories and encourage participation in some exciting new workshops, talks and activities related to reusing, recycling and repurposing waste into works of art, craft or every-day use.
The Lithgow Waste 2 Art competition and public exhibition will officially launch with a special opening event from 5.00pm to 7.00pm on Wednesday 31 May to celebrate the 'early-bird' entries and find out more about the competition and coming events- all welcome.
The exhibition will open to the public for free from Thursday 1 June to Saturday 8 July during Library opening hours of 9.00am - 6.00pm Monday - Friday and 9.00am - 12.00pm Saturday.
There's still time to enter the competition, but hurry as entry forms and final artworks must be delivered to the Library prior to 4.00pm on Tuesday 13 June. Entry forms and additional resources are available on our website, or in person at Lithgow Library and Lithgow Council Customer Service counter.
There will be prizes and certificates for the winners from each category and an opportunity for everyone to vote for the People's Choice Awards, so be sure to tell your family and friends to come and vote for their favourite entry, before the exhibition closes on Saturday 8 July.
The Waste 2 Art Community Art Exhibition and competition sponsored, by NetWaste and Lithgow City Council, is free to all residents of Lithgow/ Seven Valleys region to enter and gives aspiring and professional artists the chance to explore and share their waste reduction messages while showcasing their artistic ability.
While the official theme for the 2023 regional competition is the Year of Textiles and Fast Fashion, the competition has many different categories showcasing the creative use of a diverse range of materials that might otherwise go to landfill. Participants are welcome to enter multiple artworks, as individuals, community groups and schools.
The winning artworks from the local competition will be transported to the regional competition and exhibition in Blayney, to represent our region and compete for the major prizes.
