Fake notes used at Royal Show

Eastern District police are investigating after counterfeit $50 notes were used at Royal Adelaide Show this week.

Between Thursday 7 September and Friday 8 September, three counterfeit $50 notes were passed at three separate stalls at the Royal Adelaide Show.

Yesterday, a man handed a fifty dollar note over to a stall employee who identified the note as being counterfeit. The man did not receive any items in exchange and left the stall prior to being asked about the note.

On the same day a member of the public received a counterfeit fifty dollar note in change after purchasing food at a stall.

Today, another counterfeit fifty-dollar note was identified by a stall employee.

Police attended and seized the counterfeit notes and enquiries are continuing.

Police are asking show patrons and business owners to be vigilant when receiving cash and take the time to inspect any money to ensure it is legitimate.

If you suspect you have a counterfeit note, please report it to the police assistance line on 131 444. Handle the note as little as possible and store it in an envelope. Please be prepared to tell police the time and place where you believe you were passed the fake bank note and a description of the person or people you believe passed it to you.

To determine if a suspect note is counterfeit, it is best to compare it with a note that is known to be genuine.
