Lake Macquarie City Council's popular You're Kidding Me program will mark its tenth anniversary this year, with a refreshed format providing more opportunity for families to connect with peers and experts.
The program, aimed at children aged 0-5, is designed to improve access to health, education and family services for kids.
Council's Community Planner Children and Families Jessica Salvador said switching from sit-down seminars to more casual 'meet up' events would make it easier for parents and carers to engage with the program.
"Parenting can sometimes be an isolating experience, and COVID-19 lockdowns mean many mums and dads have missed out on attending parenting groups where supportive relationships are often formed with peers," Ms Salvador said.
"This year, through You're Kidding Me, we're creating a relaxed, no-pressure environment where families can receive support and tips from top local experts and connect with their community, while little ones enjoy fun and engaging activities."
You're Kidding Me meet-ups will be held on the last Friday of the month at the Museum of Art and Culture, yapang at Booragul, and are free to attend.
Parents are encouraged to come to as many sessions as they like, with first 20 attendees at each event to receive a free coffee.
Julie Logan Music will attend the first event on Friday 24 February and will share the joy of music and movement in assisting healthy development in children. Future sessions will feature speech screenings and experts on motor milestones and transitioning to school, to name just a few.
The annual You're Kidding Me expo will also be held in May.
