Family and Police are appealing for information following a fatal stabbing in Wollongong, earlier this year.

Emergency services were called to a unit on Crown Street, Wollongong, following reports of a stabbing, about 3.20am on Sunday 17 August 2025.

A 28-year-old man was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics for stab wounds his chest and taken to Wollongong Hospital in a critical condition. He was later transferred to St George Hospital for further treatment.

A crime scene was established, and officers attached to Wollongong Police District established Strike Force Alcalde to investigate the circumstances surrounding this incident.

On Saturday 23 August, police were notified the man had died in hospital.

He has been since been identified as 28-year-old Brandon Yates.

Shantelle Yates, Brandon's sister said they were extremely close and the loss of brother is still being felt dearly by his family, as they prepare to spend their first Christmas without him.

" He was the most cheekiest, kind person that I knew. He had a good heart, wouldn't hurt anyone, he helped everyone… people took advantage of him because he had the biggest and kindest heart out there."

"Knowing that someone would take my brother's life for nothing…I have lost my brother, my best mate, losing my soul mate."

Rossilynne Yates, Brandon's Nana is urging anyone who has information to come forward, to give Brandon's family the answers they deserve.

"It's totally devastated us all, it all seems so senseless. We just want someone to come forward and give us closure, at least."

Today, Police have released CCTV of a person they believe can assist with their inquiries, as they continue to investigate the incident.

The man was last seen wearing dark clothing and riding a bicycle north along Hector Street, Wollongong, around the time of the incident.

Anyone with dashcam footage or information is urged to come forward and contact Wollongong Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
